A 60-day cruise circling Australia is being halted following the fatal incident of an elderly lady who was left behind by the ship on a distant coastal location.

The elderly woman had been walking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the group for a break. The liner departed without her and came back later that day after the personnel realised the woman was missing.

A large-scale search operation discovered her body the next day.

Authorities are examining the tragedy, alongside investigators and the official investigator.

The CEO of the cruise operator announced that travelers and personnel on the vessel were notified that the rest of the journey had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and earlier technical problems".

In a statement, he mentioned that travelers would be provided a full refund, and said the operator was working "to arrange the travel back of the travelers via private aircraft".

Officials also issued an updated communication, and said they had "issued a order to the Commander" banning any new passengers from boarding the ship.

The official said that they would inspect the ship in the Australian city upon its arrival.

The ship initially left the Australian port on 24 October, and was merely two days into the journey at the moment of the elderly woman's death. The remote island was the initial destination on the itinerary.

She added that she hoped the investigation would be able to pinpoint what "the company should have performed that might have protected Her existence".

"We understand from the police that it was a very hot period, and mother took sick on the mountain ascent," she stated.

"Officials suggested her to head down, unescorted. Then the vessel departed, apparently without conducting a passenger count.

"At some stage in that process, or shortly after, she died, by herself."

Organization Reaction

Through an announcement, the Head verified that the operator was "cooperating fully with investigators to support their inquiry".

He said that the company was "deeply sorry that this has transpired" and had extended its complete assistance to the loved ones.

The vessel serves up to a hundred twenty travelers with 46 crew, according to official data. It was purpose-built to access remote locations of the Australian coastline and is equipped with "auxiliary vessels" - minor craft used to ferry travelers on shore trips.
