Democrats Denounce Trump After He States They Should Face Capital Punishment

Lawmakers from the Democratic party demonstrated fury after the ex-president alleged a group of Democratic representatives of being "turncoats" and stated they should be detained and sentenced "with execution" following their publication of a controversial video.

The Recording That Sparked the Controversy

The recorded message, shared on earlier this week, features six Democratic congress members who in the past served in armed forces or defense capacities.

"Like us, you all took an vow to defend and defend this constitution," the representatives affirmed in the brief video. "Currently, the risks to our governing document don't only come from overseas, but from within our own country. Our laws are unambiguous, you can reject illegal orders, you can decline improper directives, you should decline improper directives. No one has to carry out orders that contravene the law or our constitution."

Trump's Incensed Response

The recorded statement reportedly provoke a angry reply from the former president.

On the following morning, Trump published on Truth Social: "This constitutes SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these traitors to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate publication, he stated: "This is really serious, and Risky to our Country. Their words cannot be permitted to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third message, he added: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also shared a comment that read: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Opposition Representatives Answer

Following Trump's remarks on Thursday, House Democratic leader published a joint announcement condemning the remarks.

"Partisan aggression has no position in this nation," they declared. "Representatives who were featured in the video all worked our country with tremendous national pride and excellence. We strongly censure Donald Trump's appalling and dangerous calls for execution against elected officials, and appeal to GOP representatives to vigorously do the same."

The opposition officials also mentioned that they had been in communication with protective services "to guarantee the safety of these members and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must right away take down these extreme online messages and retract his violent discourse before he causes harm," the declaration continued.

Lawmakers' Firm Answer

The representatives who appeared in the video also published a response.

"We serve as ex-military personnel and national security professionals who value this nation and made an oath to safeguard and defend the constitution of the United States," they declared. "This commitment continues forever, and we plan to keep it. No threat, intimidation, or call for violence will stop us from that fundamental duty."

"The significant point is that the former president considers it subject to penalty by capital punishment for us to repeat the statutes," they added. "Armed forces members should know that we have their backs as they fulfill their pledge to the constitution and duty to follow only lawful orders. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our duty."

They added: "The entire nation must come together and denounce the former president's demands for our death and political violence. This is a moment for ethical certainty."

More Partisan Reactions

The Senate Democratic leader also censured Trump's comments and posted on social media: "It's important to understand: the former president is requesting the death of public representatives."

He added: "This represents an outright THREAT. Every Senator, all representatives, the entire nation – without partisan consideration – should condemn this without delay and without qualification."

The Republican House speaker justified Trump's claim that the Democrats had engaged in "sedition", characterizing the video as "wildly inappropriate", commenting: "This constitutes very risky, you have prominent officials of the government telling troops to ignore directives, I think that is without precedent in the nation's past."

The GOP official also according to sources told media outlets that in what he reviewed of Trump's messages, Trump was "describing the offense of sedition" but that "legal experts have to analyze the wording and determine all that."

White House Response

During a executive branch meeting on later that day, when questioned by a reporter, "Does the president want to execute congressional representatives?", the administration spokesperson responded: "No."

"Let's be clear about what the ex-commander in chief is addressing," the spokesperson said. "We see current representatives of the federal government who worked together to arrange a digital communication to individuals of the US military, to current military personnel encouraging them to ignore the president's lawful orders."

She added: "The integrity of our military depends on the chain of command, and if that system is violated, it can cause casualties, it can result in disorder, and that is exactly what these elected officials ... are basically promoting."
