Fans Demand Detainment of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of Ariana Grande are demanding that a person who jumped a barrier and grabbed the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be detained or deported from Singapore.
A viral video reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen shoving aside photographers and charging at Grande while the actors proceeded down a promenade surrounded by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately guided the stunned actress away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being escorted out of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being arrested", though legal records showed that he was scheduled to be present on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
History of Event Invasions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a concert or event. His Instagram feed includes videos of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last winter.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," stated an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user remarked.
Followers Express Concern Over the Star's Well-being
Many fans criticized Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the end of her May 2017 show in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said a further comment on Instagram.
Some supporters also questioned security officers at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while others requested online networks to remove Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Event Details
In clips circulating online, Grande seemed shocked when she was approached by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has not commented on the event, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Many of fans had gathered in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including a number who had stood in line for as long as many hours before it started.
The motion picture, to be released on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-part interpretation of the well-known theatrical production Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely relationship between two very different witches.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a light pink glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a elegant ensemble embroidered with roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the most successful film of last year in the UK, and earned ten award recognitions, earning two for best costume and set decoration.
