Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was understandable for concerns to be raised about his position following another convincing loss against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in twelve matches, marking the club's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing evening at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received a lot of backing from above,” Slot remarked.

“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win naturally but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”

He noted, “I am OK with my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we turned it around.”

Conversations with Club Management

Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot said:

“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”

He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so let’s see.”

Persistent Failings and Squad Response

The manager expressed regret over known shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones said.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”

He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club all my life.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period like this with results so bad.”

Jones finished, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we’re always going to compete.”

“Our aim is to help the side back to its rightful place, prove once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”

“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
