The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Renowned for Styling Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking British fashion designer behind many legendary styles associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.
He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the soft-colored suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".
"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."
His passing follows shortly after he unveiled his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by Princess Diana.
An Enduring Influence
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.
A year after graduating, he started his work in menswear at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Partnerships with Stars
A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His trademark skill to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in designing body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "true original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.
By the 1990s, he began working on outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included a number of outfits for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.
With a vocation that covered half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.
