The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further activity:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
