Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has an Idea of How His Sci-Fi Series Will End... For Now.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the popular program reaching its finale—and the next chapter officially in the works—the creative team opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Tremendous Viewer Reception

One could easily to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions about Pluribus. The creator is striving to steer clear of all that.

“The experience is akin to an endless supply of something incredibly sweet and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's on purpose. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Despite his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.

The Big Question: Does the creator Know the Finale of Pluribus?

Considering Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by audience theories, does that mean they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“We have some potential directions about where the show might end up,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to discard a solid concept for a better idea. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I imagine we will be doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, why mess with the classics?

“My dream is Carol to awaken with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
